A week just passed by and many people are still talking about the Milano Fashion Week. Our ECONYL® yarn was weaving the importance of sustainability into various events and the minds of people throughout the whole week by celebrating the closing of this event at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards with an outstanding green red carpet decorating the Piazza della Scala (the square where the Opera house is located in the city center).

Honoring the endless possibilities offered by our ECONYL® regenerated nylon, which can be used both in fashion and design, Aquafil and our customers presented different forms that our yarn can take at the Milano Fashion Week. Check out which one you like most!

ECONYL® on the runway of Tiziano Guardini

As part of the Mercedes-Benz International Designer Exchange Program (IDEP) designer Tiziano Guardini made his Milan Fashion Week debut at the prestigious Leonardo da Vinci Science and Technology Museum, where he showcased his Spring/Summer 2019 collection in a runway show. Tiziano is considered by many one of the most promising champions for eco-friendly and sustainable fashion and in this collection, he included our ECONYL® regenerated nylon as an ingredient for some of his pieces.

Inspired by an energetic, summery mood and infused with references to the beaches of South California, the brand’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection was centered on a relaxed and effortlessly chic wardrobe for dynamic and creative men and women.

The collection was produced in collaboration with ISKO Denim, Fulfar and Lampa and is crafted from a selection of high-end, innovative materials including our sustainable ECONYL® nylon (obtained also from upcycled fishing nets) for camouflage parkas and windbreakers and Filmar’s certified organic cotton for sweaters and sweatshirts.

Guardini presented a selection of slightly oversized silhouettes in a vibrant kaleidoscopic color palette of neon yellow, China blue, pink and green – all of which contributed to the joyful and carefree attitude of the collection.

During his career, several of Tiziano one-of-a-kind creations were displayed at some of the world’s most prestigious cultural hubs, including the Royal Albert Museum in London and the United Nations Office in Geneva.

ECONYL® in beautiful dresses at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards

ECONYL® was also the ingredient chosen by A-Lab Milano for some dresses that appeared at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards, hosted by Camera Moda in collaboration with EcoAge. The dresses have been designed by the creative director of A-Lab, Alessandro Biasi.

Web influencer Valentina Siragusa was wearing a red custom dress made with ECONYL® yarn, while the wife of Aquafil’s CEO  and creator of the ECONYL® Regeneration System, Giulio Bonazzi, was wrapped in an amazing yellow dress.

Models Andreja Pejic and Maxim Magnus were also wearing dresses by Zilver, incorporating our ECONYL® regenerated nylon, made from ocean plastic and landfill waste, and Italian Newlife™ made from recycled PET bottles. Everything was completed with bags and shoes made from organic vegetable-tanned leather sourced from farms in Northern Sweden.

ECONYL® dressing Piazza della Scala

For the second year a carpet made by ege carpets using ECONYL® yarn was created to cover Piazza della Scala for the Green Carpet Fashion Awards. This year, the flooring was printed with images of beautiful hummingbirds and flowers, a design created by Vogue’s editor Hamish Bowles.

This is the second year that Aquafil, together with ege and Eco-Contract + Eco-Design in Italy, supplied the carpet for the event. Last year’s carpet, with big pomegranates, was used for the fashion awards and then reused and regenerated through the ECONYL® Regeneration Process. This unique system invented by Aquafil allows producing ECONYL® regenerated yarn using waste material instead of oil. By doing this, we are turning a waste problem into exceptional fashion and interior solutions, all present at this year Milan Fashion Week.

Many celebrities were present during the Green Carpet Fashion Awards, among them: Anna Wintour, Suzy Menkes, Donatella Versace, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, Cindy Crawford and of course Livia and Colin Firth. Carlo Capasa, president of Camera della Moda hosted the event in collaboration with EcoAge.
