Aquafil and ege carpets provided the green carpet made from ECONYL® regenerated yarn for the third annual Green Carpet Fashion Awards.
The carpet will be reused for other high-profile events across Europe before being recycled through the unique ECONYL® Regeneration Process.

Milan, 23rd September 2019 – Last night at the third annual Green Carpet Fashion Awards, Italia, Aquafil provided the centre piece of the event – a green carpet made with ECONYL® regenerated nylon created from discarded fishing nets and other nylon waste.

Covering the Piazza della Scala, the carpet spanned 2,000 square meters welcoming celebrity guests to the awards including, Adut Akech, Jon Kortajarena, Stella McCartney, Dame Anna Wintour, Valentino Garavani, Sophia Loren, Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes, Colin Firth, Shailene Woodley, Barbara Palvin, Elsa Hosk, Amber Valletta, Candice Swanepoel, Eric Underwood, Sinead Burke, Olivia Palermo, Ian Somerhalder, Nikki Reed, Pixie Geldof, Jess Glynne, Kat Graham, Lea T and Toni Garrn.

The event, organized by Eco-Age and Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI), took place at Teatro alla Scala, Milan, and celebrated the commitment of fashion houses to sustainability, as they work to embrace rapid change while preserving the heritage and authenticity of small-scale producers.

As in previous years, the carpet was made with ECONYL® fibre, and produced in collaboration with the Danish Company, ege carpets and for the second year, designed by Vogue editor, Hamish Bowles, Creative Director for the awards.

Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci in the 500th anniversary year of his death, the carpet covering Piazza della Scala, the storied square that links La Scala with the Palazzo, is a homage to da Vinci with an aesthetic that draws on his exquisite works and Renaissance tapestries.

We are privileged to partner with the Green Carpet Fashion Awards Italia for the third year running”, said Giulio Bonazzi, Aquafil CEO and President. “Honouring the endless possibilities offered by our ECONYL® regenerated nylon, which can be used both in fashion and design, Aquafil are turning a waste problem into exceptional solutions.”

It has been a pleasure working once again with the incredibly talented Hamish Bowles, who has created another spectacular design. With our Italian heritage, we are proud to be involved with this important event, held at the prestigious Teatro alla Scala, celebrating other Italian companies working towards a more sustainable future. Similar to last year, the carpet, produced by Ege Carpet, will also be reused and then recycled, after the awards ceremony into yet another innovative creation!

This year’s carpet excitingly will be used for further red-carpet events across Europe including Rome and London.

ECONYL® yarn was also the ingredient chosen by A-Lab Milano for dresses worn by Veronika Mikos, Healthy Seas Project Co-ordinator, whilst on stage receiving the Circular Economy Award, as well as down the carpet by Roberta Bonazzi, wife of Aquafil chairman and CEO, Giulio Bonazzi.
