Post-consumer material is waste generated once a product has reached the end of its intended use.

[noun]
It comes from households, businesses, or institutions and can no longer be used for its original purpose. Returns from the distribution chain are also included. Unlike pre-consumer material, it is considered burden-free since the environmental impact was already accounted for during its first life cycle.

Example: Used plastic bottles collected from recycling bins are post-consumer material.
