3 Non-Profit Organizations promoting Climate Literacy Initiatives

On April 22nd, 1970, the first Earth Day marked an environmental revolution. Now, the movement is undertaking an even bolder ambition: to reimagine education with the planet in mind.

Grassroot reforms by educators, students and non-profit organizations are pushing the boundaries of traditional learning to include climate literacy campaigns. The objective is to raise the quality bar and engage future generations at an early age in environmental stewardship. Here are three organizations championing this change.

Action for the Climate Emergency – ACE

This non-profit educates, inspires and supports today’s youth fighting for their future. From governments and institutions to corporations and start-ups, ACE envisions a world economy led by young, talented and conscious entrepreneurs who advocate the right solutions to turn the tide on climate change. ACE’s award-winning digital media campaigns guide young minds, build knowledge, shift attitudes, and catalyze cooperation to spark action.[1] Immerse yourself in their latest Our Climate, Our Future video experience for a sneak peek into their programs.

World Wildlife Fund – WWF

Conservation is the single, most important purpose of the organization. WWF collaborates with local communities in nearly 100 countries to protect the earth’s natural resources. For the past three decades, the organization has worked with educators to deliver hands-on courses to empower youth. For example, WWF UK has partnered with over 10,000 schools in the region, mentoring primary and secondary school teachers on the know-how to develop youth understanding of sustainability topics. The goal is to encourage the next generation to discover their own values and skills, so they feel empowered to help restore a planet where people and nature can thrive.[2] Find out more about WWF’s ground-breaking approach to learning here.

Healthy Seas

As a pioneer in the circular economy, this non-profit tackles today’s ghost fishing phenomenon, which is responsible for the needless death of marine animals worldwide. With the help of volunteer divers and stakeholders in the fishing sector, Healthy Seas works towards ocean litter prevention, collecting waste nets and ensuring marine debris are turned into valuable resources, such as the ECONYL® regenerated nylon. Education is a primary focus of the organization, which includes spreading awareness campaigns and inspiring future generations for positive change.
