The idea of a Fashion competition was there almost from the beginning of the collaboration between MEDASSET and Healthy Seas in Greece. As MEDASSET entered the Healthy Seas initiative last year, starting a great collaboration to recover marine waste, they immediately started thinking about a fashion competition. The idea is simple. From the nets recovered by the Healthy Seas initiative, along with other waste material that we collect around the world, Aquafil is able to produce the ECONYL® regenerated yarn that is used both in the production of carpets and garments. So using our regenerated yarn and collaborating with the College of Art and Design of Athens, MEDASSET was able to start this incredible project where 10 students and recent graduates are creating his or her own piece of garment using fabric containing the ECONYL® yarn. 4 judges along with online voters will decide which of these 10 garments will be awarded with the prize for the 3 top designers. The public will be able to vote on MEDASSET’s website starting on May 5th. The final ceremony will be held in Athens on the May 17th where the 6 winning designs will be presented on manequins.

We will be following all the events so stay tuned for more.
