FASHIONISTA – The rainbow swimsuit Whitney plans to wear every weekend this summer

By Whitney Bauck
Not just when I’m near a body of water.
The past few summers, I have had a bad habit of not going to the beach much, even though I love the beach and it’s only a train ride away from me in Brooklyn. Even so, I get a good deal of wear out of my one-piece swimsuits, because of my tendency to wear them like bodysuits: with overalls or denim cut-offs to the park, to go dancing, to bum around on my roof, to garden and to go grocery shopping. Which is another way of saying, I pretty much wear them every place I think I can get away with it once it’s warm enough, even if there’s no body of water in sight.
For this coming summer, I’m eyeing this rainbow one-piece from Mara Hoffman, a designer I love for her emphasis on sustainability (this suit is made from recycled ECONYL® nylon!) and her gorgeous imagery. The bright colors on this piece feel so in-your-face-summery, and I like that the low-cut back shows a bit more skin than the modest front would lead you to believe. Who knows, maybe it’ll even motivate me to spend some time in the ocean by season’s end.
