NEW YORK, June 4, 2019 — Aquafil, a leading company in the circular economy, created a custom-design green carpet for this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards at the Brooklyn Museum in New York. The stunning 11,600 square foot carpet, made with ECONYL® regenerated nylon, is the latest in a series of green carpets developed by Aquafil for marquis fashion events from Milan to Los Angeles.

Aquafil brings new purpose to waste materials that would otherwise pollute the world’s landfills and oceans. ECONYL® sustainable yarn is wholly made from waste — including fishnets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastic. ECONYL® is also featured in the CFDA Guide to Sustainable Strategies published this year.

ECONYL® regenerated nylon reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 80 percent compared with material generated from oil. For every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® raw material, 70,000 barrels of crude oil are saved, and 57,100 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions are avoided.

This ‘green’ carpet was created with ECONYL® fibers in a Millennial pink design that echoed the evening’s overall creative. ECONYL® additionally featured its green carpet in front of a series of mirrored, orb-like installations that served as a stunning backdrop for attendee photo-ops.

In attendance were major members of the fashion industry, including Eileen Fisher, Bob Mackie, and Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen. Jennifer Lopez was honored with this year’s Fashion Icon Award.

ECONYL® regenerated nylon is not used only for beautiful carpet, but also for clothing design. Mr. Bonazzi, chairman and CEO of Aquafil SpA, was wardrobed for the event in fashions made with ECONYL®. Mr. Bonazzi’s tuxedo was designed by Tiziano Guardini. Brooklyn-based fashion designer Christopher John Rogers also designed an ECONYL® dress for the night’s Trova hostess, Ayesha Sesay, who distributed the Trova statuettes throughout the evening during the CFDA Awards.

We were thrilled to have Aquafil provide the green carpet for the CFDA Awards again this year,” said Mark Beckham, CFDA’s Vice President of Marketing & Events. “ECONYL® fiber is suited for the fashion industry because of its sustainability, versatility and quality. We believe fibers like ECONYL® are the future of sustainable fashion.

It was an honor for our team to be part of the CFDA Fashion Awards again this year,” said Giulio Bonazzi, chairman and CEO of Aquafil SpA. “Designers are truly adopting sustainable sourcing, materials and processes. We thank the CFDA for its commitment to supporting a more sustainable future.
