In July this year, Lance Hosey wrote on the Arch Daily that architects never waste a good crisis. And for this matter, we believe designers don’t either. He continues, “At heart, we are problem-solvers, and we jump at every problem that needs solving, a tendency that is inherent to our industry’s optimism.”

Lance Hosey was referring to the COVID-19 crisis and broadly to the environmental crisis at hand, but in our upcoming webinar, we are focusing mainly on the waste crisis and the possibilities offered by a transition to the circular economy. This shift will be possible only with the collaboration and contribution of problem-solver designers.

In the circular economy, materials remain in the flow and what is waste from a process becomes the raw material for a new one in a never-ending cycle, just like nature.

Wouldn’t this be a game-changer? To create and design new products without ever drilling for new resources? Design products so that at their end-of-life stage, it can serve as another product’s starting point? For this to happen, we will need to involve companies, institutions, consumers, and above all, designers.

But where are we on this journey?

It has been calculated that today the world is 6% circular. This means that the rest of the raw materials used globally don’t find their way back into the economy and are lost, typically in landfills

Research shows that creating a circular economy offers a $4.5 trillion economic opportunity by avoiding waste, while also creating business growth and employment opportunities.

The problem is that we cannot start a new system, we have to work within the system that we have and change it from the inside out, which proves to be more challenging.

This webinar will guide you from the urgency of this change to the necessary next steps, and above all, it will present practical examples of the solutions others are working on right now.

This webcast will equip you with:

  • DATA ABOUT THE WASTE PROBLEM AND ITS URGENCY
  • A ROADMAP TOWARDS EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP IN CIRCULAR DESIGN
  • INSPIRATION FROM NUMEROUS CASE STUDIES AT DIFFERENT STEPS IN THE JOURNEY AND IN DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES
