Aquafil has established a unique partnership with 11-time World Champion surfer Kelly Slater to launch a sustainable menswear apparel brand. Outerknown was born from Slater’s desire to create a clothing brand that blends style, function and sustainability.
Slater’s unique connection to the ocean and environment pushed him to create a product he knew wouldn’t harm the things he loves – surfing and outdoor apparel. He was inspired to create a line in response to the environmental and economic impact associated with fashion.
Slater brought on friend and acclaimed menswear designer John Moore as Creative Director to help bring his vision to light.
Outerknown represents a clean slate – an opportunity to create modern coastal clothing we want to wear with a manufacturing process we believe in. We are surfers that grew up and we want to wear smart and stylish clothing that compliments our nomadic lifestyle. It’s not easy to build cool and luxurious clothing in a sustainable way, but it’s the only way to do business moving forward,” said Moore.
ECONYL® is currently being used in Outerknown’s Evolution Series of jackets and boardshorts.
